Are You Addicted to Dieting?

As a Naturopath and having specialised in fat-loss for so long, I see one type of person much too often....Women who are always on a diet!!!

Are you addicted to dieting?

Women who are always on a diet are rarely successful in dieting. The problem lies in the fact of getting enthusiastic about buying the next 'Secret' to losing the fat. What they are really looking for is another excuse for their failure....and by blaming the diet and not themselves 'Oh, I tried the Hollywood Celebrity Diet for a few days and it didn't work' (it was too hard, it tastes disgusting, I got sick and had to stop, it was my friends wedding and I ate cake so I stopped the diet (for 6 months) blah, blah.

Ok, I don't agree with 'dieting' as such or going on crash diets, fad diets, skinny diets or any diet that promises a short term fix. I always advocate healthy eating and how to lose the fat by making your health your priority and by eating correctly you will not only lose the fat but lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, manage diabetes and help regulate many other common health complaints.

The key is to stop making excuses for not losing weight. The reason you're not losing weight is because  you're always looking for the next diet instead of looking at yourself and the whole picture. Emotional eating and poor education on healthy eating (Learn about healthy eating and the basics about fats/carbs/protein in my 'archives' on this blog).

The biggest dietary mistake I see is a lack of protein at each meal, meals are too infrequent, not enough fiber & vegetables. It is less about what you 'are' eating but what you are 'not' eating, which surprises most. This is why I 'always' recommend a high quality protein powder.

I never ask a client what their current diet is like...and when I say 'diet' I mean their daily eating plan. The reason being, everyone always says 'yeh, good' or 'yes, I eat healthy and no matter what I do I cant lose weight,. This is why I just ask them to write down a few days meals/food/snacks/drinks and basically anything that passes the mouth that can be labelled as food and the exact times of day eaten.

I then analyse it and then write out a suitable plan that will work. Yes it will take commitment but it won't be a short term diet but a long term healthy eating plan that will simultaneously melt the fat!
